The afternoon cruising around Niagara Falls was spectacular, and I got off my bike for a quick hike down to the river to watch the whirlpool caused by the tremendous runoff from the falls up close. The day wore me out, and after riding only 45 miles around the falls, I collapsed asleep after a dinner purchased at the campground office: graham crackers and canned chili.
Ontario is flat, and 104 miles with almost no hills helped me break 5,000 miles for the trip along the way. I feel extremely comfortable on the bike now. Even after a ten or twelve hour day my legs barely complain at all. On the other hand I think my will power is starting to wan again. The uncertainty is starting to wear me down again. I think it is lucky I'm almost to the end of my trip. I'm not sure how much longer I could continue to spend each day riding, getting lost at least once, not knowing where I'm going to sleep, telling the same stories a half dozen times, not that I don't enjoy talking about myself, and knowing that ultimately I'm going to do it all over again the next day and the next.
That is probably why, after getting slightly sunburned today and then getting caught in a thunderstorm, I decided to buy two microwavable hamburgers and a Sprite and took them back to my motel room. This was after eating a can of pork and beans in the bathtub while watching a rerun of Seinfeld. I'm sitting on the bed right now, delaying changing a flat that I must have picked up somehow in the parking lot between the office and the door to my room. Tomorrow it is back to the States and into Michigan. I'm hoping for nice weather and another big day on the bike. I hope they don't hassle me too much at customs.
